Albert Bierstadt Master Study

As 2019 is winding down, I realized I hadn't done any master studies since June Study Jam season, so we were past due!

My favorite landscape painter of all-time is Albert Bierstadt, and I've never been brave enough to try a study of his (until now!). This is my take on his brilliant piece 'Looking Down Yosemite Valley', circa 1865.

I learned a ton on this piece, including shape language, eyeline, allowing for "happy accidents", as well as how much more I have to learn on color theory, value control, and "simple vs. detail".

About 7 hours of work on this one
